On IP Finance there is a good piece about the claim that patents are destroying innovation in the mobile sector. All mobile producers and hangarounds are implicated in patent lawsuits all over the world.
In the blogpost the doomsday claims are compared with industry facts. Author Keith Mallinson asks how a market that grew 27% in 2012 according to IDC can be in a crisis? And not only is the market growing the products are evolving too – smaller, better, faster, longer. And there is no shortage of content to the devices either.
And patents? As said in an article on NYT – patents aren’t a bug in the system they are a feature. The current mobile wars are a shakeout among the giants using the available tools. And it isn’t damaging innovation.
