Browsing through recent Danish Utility models I came across an interesting one concerning a tool for budgeting equipment costs at hospitals. BA 2010 00154 relates to a method and system for estimating different types of costs of equipment used in hospitals.
The method is obviously not protectable under Danish utility model law since it concerns a known computer system and a method for estimating costs. I find it hard to see where the further technical effect is in the system. I don’t think that the technical nature of the equipment used for making an economic estimate will rub off on the technical nature of the method. That has been the case in very early EPO case law but has since been left.
So now it’s up to the competition to erase this utility model.
