Arcitects can be copycats too

There is only so many ways to design a house, or a bus stop shelter. However AFA JCDecaux feels that ClearChannel has strayed too close for comfort with their new bus shelter. AFA JCDecaux claim that ClearChannels bus shelter is infringing their IP rights (copyright/design) because the two shelters are very similar.

As the picture below indicates (the original to the right) they have a point. Even though copyright protection for buildings and applied arts is very limited because of the functional needs of the design, the ClearChannel shelter is almost identical.

It is yet uncertain whether the case will go to court. Both shelters are designed by accomplished architects.
