How many dollars are in the free economy?

The allways interesting “Long tail” has a story on how big the free economy is. Chris Andersson estimates the size to be around 300 billion $$ when defining the free economy as:

  • Advertising-supported free media
  • Open source software (service and support around free software)
  • Free-to-play videogames
  • Free music

Just for comparison the US military budget was 439 billion $ in 2007.
