When ideas turn opposite

Some time ago I read a post on Boingboing about the origins of the Monopoly game. It seems that a similar game was developed earlier and Charles Darrow (creator of Monopoly) borrowed the game concepts from this game. The earlier game “Landlords game” had another approach though. Instead of competing in classical capitalistic diciplines as construction tycoon or monopolist this game had a more collaborative dimension. The Americans describe this as a socialist dimension to the game – which is stretching I a bit I think

The interesting thing however is that an idea by original creator Lizzie J. Magie, is taken up by another and turned in another direction. From collaboration to monopolies.
