The European Commission just published the status of IP enforcement at European borders for 2010. The numbers seem confusing at first sight. The number of cases has doubled from around 40.000 to around 80.000. The number of articles confiscated however fell. The reason for this is that the goods detained are mainly from mail sources and not large shipments. Medicines amount to almost 70% of the counterfeit goods caught by customs in the mail.
The estimated value of goods detained is 1.1 billion Euros, which is a huge amount. This number alone must convince politicians and customs officers that they are doing a good job. I hope the new Danish customs strategy doesn´t spoil the good work of Danish customs.
