I stumbled upon a paper analyzing how IP has helped a company during a timespan of 10 years. In 1999 the investment bank CSFB did a report on five companies relying on IP. Now some researchers has followed up on that report for one of the companies – Xaar plc.Â
What they found was that IP has contributed to the company’s growth both via product sales, licensing out patented technology and the formation of strategic partnerships.Â
However the report also concludes that IP has not been responsible for this growth alone, a lot of other factors also contribute. Among these factors “having an appropriate business model†is one of the most important.Â
The report is somewhat messy to read but nevertheless interesting.Â
