Learning from threatening letters

Wired has a fantastic article boiling up all the knowledge of how the IP cease and desist industry works. The article builds on gathered from the 4chan “operation payback. This operation by hackers targeted the music industry and has resulted in a lot of confidential information being shared.

The result is a fine article describing how the lawyers writing threatening letters to P2P users work. It is interesting to see that the lawyers estimate that just writing letters and getting a few hundred pounds is more profitable than going to court.

On the funny side reading responses from the recipients of the threatening letters is also very funny.
