Last Thursday one of the Danish newspapers had a commercial paper in it with articles (and lots of ads of course) about innovation and IP. I found the online version of the paper via the DKPTO blog.
Finally the message from companies and advisors has changed. From “get more IP” to “get a better IP strategy”. Oticon – the hearing aid company – tells about how IP issues are discussed at the top of the pyramid (as it should). IP specialists advocates protection strategies and CEO awareness.
So it’s just doing it then? The answer is yes and no. Companies need to set things in motion for real. Not just a decision on better focus on IP but organizational change, changing processes letting your whole company mirror your determination…are you up for that? Next the companies need the proper tools for the change. Rather than relying on your legal or technical advisors you need a broader mix. You need a team of people with knowledge and experience in law, technology, marketing, economy and business. All these competencies are needed if you want to build your organization to meet your own ambitions.
So I can’t wait to participate in lots of projects with companies blending my knowledge with others evolving their approach to IP. I have my “sales pitch” ready if you want to know how to handle such a project.
