Microsoft Word stopped in US

Tuesday Microsoft lost one of the crown jewels in their product range – Microsoft Word. The loss is not complete but the company is barred from selling versions of Word capable of opening .XML, .DOCX or DOCM files in USA. The reason is that a Texas judge issued a permanent injunction due to a claim of patent infringement by i4i. The company has a patent on a “Method and system for manipulating the architecture and the content of a document separately from each other “. Microsoft has 60 days to come up with a non-infringing product or settle.

i4i is not a stranger to Microsoft the company was awarded a huge amount of money earlyer this year in another Texas infringement case.
