I have recently been hearing the tern IP ecosystem a lot (last at the annual DKPTO conference). Tangible IP has a piece on the subject complete with map and all. The map is very nice and defines most roles of the players in the IP business. The article descrivbes some of teh practices by companies that lead to either succesful use of IP or Anti utilization.
In my opinion what is needed to complete the map (or use it properly you can say) is a process map of your IP organisation. If you document your processes you will be able to see if they fit your overall strategy. How is the licensing descision tied to your business strategy? Could you use contractors to cut costs of IP? The next step would be to align your IP processes with your company strategy and maybe even improve your processes.
